Bag, Borrow, or Steal Designer Purses

The Bag, Borrow, or Steal Web site was highlighted on E! News a while back. For those of you who haven’t heard of it, the service allows you to basically rent or rent-to-own expensive designer purses. Jewelry can be “borrowed” too, which would be great for weddings.

Dropping Pounds

April 25th, 2007 by PG Chic

I officially started Weight Watchers back in January 2007. My support line includes my sisters and mother and it is going great! At the time, I wanted to lose up to 20 pounds.

As additional motivation, we decided to do a friendly, 12-week weight loss competition with a few close friends and family. All of us have been using different tactics. Some are going with Weight Watchers, another with the Dieter’s Dictionary, and even the controversial Lemonade detox diet (also called the Master Cleanser).

I am happy to announce that I have lost a total of 15 pounds and 6 inches from my waist in 12 weeks! WW is great, but I also have to give props to Dr. Oz’s (and Dr. Roizen’s) YOU: On a Diet, The Owner’s Manual for Waist Management. It’s no secret that Oprah (and my “guilty pleasure” Tyra) gets a Tivo Season Pass. Anyway, I am loving Dr. Oz!

I challenge you all to have a friendly weightloss competition with your friends and families. It’s not to late to get ready for the Summer!

Local African American writer, William Powell, Jr. , has recently published a science fiction novel called Valkyrie. It is a wonderful tale that recounts the adventures of fictional, super-powered secret agent Myla Henderson.

Wegmans of Woodmore, MD

Okay, so I know it is old news that we are getting a Wegmans as part of Woodmore Towne Center (and BTW I am really excited about that). To my understanding, it will be built behind St. Joseph’s Catholic Church not far from the old Landover Mall and the area will be called Woodmoore, MD.

Then, recently I heard that the area behind FedEx field will also be called Woodmore, MD. If you are familiar with the area, I am sure you are thinking to yourself, “Hmm…” Comments? I guess changes are coming. I knew something was up when I first saw the brick sign a while back on route 202, “Prince George’s County - A Livable Community.”

Going Blond? “Pat your weaves ladies…”

Email To Friend Email To Friend

April 16th, 2007 by PG Chic

I have grown my hair out considerably over the past couple of years. I have had highlights before that were disasterous — the stylist overprocessed me and my hair slowly broke off over time. Although that was over ten years ago, I am hesistant to go down that road again.

So, my latest hair exploration will be having my stylist sew in maybe one or two blended brown/blond tracks to experiment with color and not damage my hair in the meantime. I can’t wait to see how it comes out! I am a roller-wrap-n-go type of a girl, so this is big for me.

Any other suggestions for experimenting with hair styles without committing fully? Some women swear by wigs, especially since the lace-front wig is so popular now.

MAY 2007 UPDATE: I did it! My hair is closer to 2B, but the shop I went to only had 4 mixed with 30, which was a nice combination.

Hair Weave, Color 4 mixed with color 30

I lasted only a couple of weeks, so it’s out now, but most people just thought I got highlights. The main two reasons why me and weaves don’t work: (1) I need to be able to get to my scalp; (2) With my big mouth, I told everyone who complimented my hair that I had a few tracks added! I can’t keep that kind of secret…lol.

I guess I would consider getting highlights in the color that I tried out. Still thinking about that…

The Secret

April 15th, 2007 by PG Chic

By now, you have at least heard about The Secret, as seen on Oprah in February 2007. I heard about it last Fall, but I didn’t pay too much attention to it because the trailer looked a little cooky at the time. However, I become more intrigued with the movie and the concept of the laws of attraction after seeing the two shows that Oprah dedicated to The Secret. There are definite themes of various world religions intertwined throughout some of the principles given. I think most people agree that it is not anything new, but just a message repackaged in such a way to produce positive results in many people. If anything, it promotes motivating self-talk. Basically, you are what you believe or you attract what you think.

You gotta love R. Kelly. I don’t want to like him (after his underage fiasco), but his songs are contagious! “I’m a Flirt” is still on my playlist…

Happy “New” Year! Thank you?

Email To Friend Email To Friend

April 7th, 2007 by PG Chic

Welcome to 2007. Okay, so it’s April, but my 1 personal year is officially underway—if you know anything about numerology—so that’s supposed to be a good thing, right? Really, this is just an excuse to re-post my 2007 New Year’s message below. Enjoy!

My personal, action-oriented motto for the year is to Build Wealth! I have challenged myself to have a healthier understanding of investing. I will share my experiences here. One recent tip from a friend is to open an online savings account like INGDirect or HSBC for better rates. I am not endorsing these sites, but just passing on the information.

Among other “to-do”-style lists that I have created, I have vowed to complete a list of items (one item for every year of my age) that I have always wanted to do and check them off, one by one. I hope that you all will do the same!

Now that we are a few months into the year, I have an even better motto from Oprah. The Motto: This is the Year! You gotta’ love Oprah….

Why PG? Many of us live in gorgeous Prince George’s County, MD, but we all know that we are willing to travel anywhere in the DC Metropolitan area or beyond for the latest and greatest must-have item or service. Therefore, this online community is not only for Prince George’s County residents, but it is open to residents from all areas surrounding the District of Columbia.

The PG Chic Web site is a one-stop, online resource for local information on style, entertainment, wealth, and wellness focusing on the conversations that we have surrounding these various topics.  This site will allow you to exchange information about the area’s must-have, must-do, must-see, and must-go-to topics.  See About PG Chic for more information about how to be a part of the movement.
