Dominican Hair Styles in Washington DC Area - Part 1

UPDATE (07/15/07): Of Curls and Cultures - At the Dominican Salon, a Tangled History All Comes Out in the Wash, and Set (Washington Post, 07/14/2007) Also, see Part 2 on this post.
If you are originally from New York or have visited New York City and had a Dominican-style hair experience, then you know that it’s worth getting your hair styled by the Dominicans every once in a while. The difference between the Washington DC Metropolitan area and New York is that it will cost you almost twice the price here than in New York at $35-40 for the popular blow-out style. The basic process is a wash-and-set on rollers, sit under a super hot hair dryer, then your hair is blown out with a round hair brush and styled. The result - lots of body. Indescribable body! (Cons - That’s a lot of heat on your hair. I wouldn’t recommend getting your hair styled that way too frequently.)
You may wonder, where are the popular salons in the Washington DC Metropolitan area to get the Dominican style blow out? I have been going to Luisa’s in downtown Silver Spring, MD for years. She relocated to Bonifant St. a few years ago after a fire at the old Ramsey Avenue location. She also has another location in Silver Spring.
