Marry Your Baby Daddy

I heard about the Marry Your Baby Daddy Web site on the “CNN presents: Black in America” special that aired this summer and I’m finally checking out the site. Essentially, they select 10 unmarried couples with children and give them a free wedding after they go through an intensive serveral week pre-marital counseling course. It has been criticized because of people think the name of the site/program is a little “urban”, but the outcome is positive.

 

Well, you can’t deny that it’s a catchy name that maybe attracts the audience they’re looking for? Actually, if mainstream cinema has embraced Amy Poehler and Tina Fey in “Baby Mama“, then the “baby daddy” term has already gone from “urban” to mainstream anyway. One of my counterparts at work said, “You go, girl” to me recently (not the first time), so it was only a matter of time before the “baby daddies” and “baby mamas” of Maury became mainstream slang.
