June 18, 2007 My husband and I recently dined at Timpano Italian Chophouse located on Rockville Pike in Rockville, MD. We went on a Friday night around 6pm and there was no wait. The place was busy with all ages from a couple with a small child to a group of high school students on the way to the prom. There were also professional folks at the bar participating in what looked like a lively happy hour. The wait staff was dressed formally, similar to the staff at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse or Morton’s. Our waitress was a young lady who was very friendly and attentive. To start, we ordered a bottle of Riesling from their extensive wine list. Timpano's menu includes such items as fresh made pasta, flat breads, seafood, meats, and salads. After the wine was served, fresh hot dinner rolls were brought to our table. While I thought their dinner rolls were excellent, the accompanying dipping sauce (a mixture olive oil mixed with balsamic vinegar) was not to my liking. My husband ordered the Black Skillet Roasted Mussels for an appetizer, which came out on a sizzling cast iron pan. I usually do not like the taste of mussels, but these were simply delicious. They were sautéed in extra virgin olive and kosher salt, which I think, must have made the difference for me. For my entrée, I had the Roasted Salmon, which was served over Sautéed Artichokes and Spinach with a Mustard Cream Sauce. The combination of the Salmon with the Mustard Cream Sauce was delectable. For dessert, the waitress brought out a tray of their offerings, which included a Lollipop tree. A lollipop tree is basically a wire metal stand configured like a tree that holds several flavors of fried cheesecake on lollipop sticks. I had never seen anything like it and I thought it was a unique and creative addition to Timpano's menu. The only downside to our visit was we were seated at a table near the restrooms. But other than that, I would recommend Timpano. The food was scrumptious and the service was excellent. I plan to go back soon to check out their live entertainment which occurs Tuesday through Saturday starting at 8pm. Stay tuned for more restaurant reviews! Related Links: Mie N Yu Restaurant Review |
