It’s good to know that the Washington DC area is a haven for female executives. According to a new study, as reported on NBC 4 and WTOP, “The [Washington] region has 14,000 women in ‘C-level’ positions, a category that includes chief executives, chief financial officers, executive directors at nonprofits and top government jobs” (NBC4.com, 06/06/07). Lots of opportunities!

Wildly Sophisticated
is a book by Nicole Williams of WORKS about career development for young women. I think it is a great book for women in the 25-30 year range or any women struggling with career success.

Every professional woman should own the book, Nice Girls Don’t Get the Corner Office: 101 Unconscious Mistakes Women Make That Sabotage Their Careers
by Lois P. Frankel. Her book helps women overcome and recognize many issues that keep us from succeeding in our professional lives. Some of the “mistakes” covered in the book range from being the office candy lady to something as seemingly simple as answering your phone only saying your first name. This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it!

If you ever need a comprehensive book on networking, I highly recommend “The Secrets of Savvy Networking: How to Make the Best Connections for Business and Personal Success”
by Susan RoAne. I have the audio version and RoAne covers everything from follow-up to business etiquette.
Also, RoAne’s book, “How to Work a Room, Revised Edition: Your Essential Guide to Savvy Socializing”
just came out with a 2007 revised edition a couple of weeks ago.
