One day last week, when I opened my mail I could hardly keep from bursting at the seams when I saw a flyer from Giant Food advertising the Peapod food delivery service. Many of you have this service, but there are areas in Prince George’s that seem to have been skipped. So, the first thing I did was go online to put in my zip code. Lo and behold, I get the same message that I have been getting for the past 3 years –
“We’re sorry, the Peapod grocery delivery service has not yet reached your area. Please enter your e-mail address so we may contact you when service is available in your area.”
I need to get to the bottom of this. I hope that the Web site is just not updated yet. Who has time to go grocery shoping? Not me…this is why Giant’s Peapod will make life easier for me. I’ll find out more.
I had the opportunity to borrow this cookbook recently and I was impressed! There are too many recipes to count that remind me of my mother’s Southern cooking—there is even a recipe for grits and also cheesy scrambled eggs. I made the Braised Oxtail and Pound Cake last weekend and I was in heaven.
I really like that the book includes basic dishes (beyond the Joy of Cooking: 75th Anniversary Edition - 2006) like fried chicken, smothered chicken, potato salad, etc. It think the books is a good Christmas present for someone who loves to cook or for someone that needs help with the basics and can work up to more elaborate delicious dishes.
Of course I must mention the Oprah connection to Delilah Winder. Oprah picked Delilah’s Macaroni and Cheese as one her “best of the best” items back in 2003.
I have been wanting to create a FLOR rug for my living room for the past couple of years. FLOR is modular carpet tile that can be used to create a rug of any size or to create a wall-to-wall look. Check it out!
A couple of years ago, a few of my girlfriends started using the Peapod by Giant shop online grocery delivery service. They loved the service and as you can imagine the time savings and overall convenience was great. Giant still offers the Peapod by Giant grocery delivery service in the area to almost everywhere in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. However, Upper Marlboro, MD (both 20772 and 20774) is noticeably not in the delivery area. I called the Peapod By Giant customer service to find out the timeline for adding more delivery areas, but I was told that there is not a close by warehouse from which to deliver the food. Interesting. Well, there’s always the Safeway grocery delivery service now offered in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. (and a few other states). You guessed it…not delivering in Upper Marlboro, MD either.
My sister told me about an article in last week’s Washington Post, “Taking Time in Hand: 6:30 shower 6:55 dressed 7:30 children’s breakfast” about the latest trend of hiring a certified family manager coach through the Family Manager. Coaches are certified online for $499 and the service itself is $199. The service includes an initial assessment, makeover, and two consultations. Time management and household organization are the main areas of focus.
A few home organizing Web sites included in the article…
I asked for help to clean my house. Now, what about hooking a sister up with cooking dinner? Or, at least making dinner preparation easier. A friend of mine has tried Super Suppers and a co-worker tried Dream Dinners. Also, I recently found My Girlfriend’s Kitchen, will be opening soon in Glenn Dale, MD and Annapolis, MD. I will check out all three and report back my experiences, but in the meantime, does anyone have any experiences with any of these dinner preparation services?
I should mention that all of these are franchise opportunities.
Who has time to clean the house? People have full-time jobs, kids, community activities, not to mention a life. Well, if I told my mother I wanted to get a cleaning lady, she would tell me to pay her and she’ll come over. I think today’s woman has a lot of responsibilities as it is and trying to be superwoman is old news. All I’m saying is, “I’m not your superwoman!”
However, I have also heard that the best resource, instead of a team of cleaners, is to find one good cleaning person and share her (or him…hey, you never know) with neighbor(s) or friend(s).
