Skeptical Brother Blog

Email To Friend Email To Friend

October 27th, 2007 by PG Chic

Just sharing a quick blurb about a blog that I came across called Skeptical Brotha. I read Skeptical Brotha’s coverage of a Donna Edwards (challenging Al Wynn again) fundraising event — aside, if you don’t know (and you would be late) Del. Aisha N. Braveboy (D-Dist. 25) of Mitchellville endorsed Donna Edwards. Anyway, dude’s site has some interesting information included — he speaks his mind!

Unrelated, but funny to me –
The blog name is classic, Skeptical Brotha. The name “Skeptical Brotha” makes me think of the Dave Chappelle’s character “Conspiracy Brother” in the cult classic Undercover Brother.

He Did What?! Venting Website

Email To Friend Email To Friend

October 2nd, 2007 by PG Chic

Just sharing an interesting site that I discovered late one night called He Did What

He Did What Web Site Screenshot

We can all relate to the foolishness that our men put us through sometimes. The He Did What site allows you to vent about your relationship troubles and other people can post comments. Many of the comments seem to be supportive and include opinions on whether your significant other is in the wrong or if you need to just let it go.

To answer the obvious question, yes, there is also a site called She Did What (Men evidently don’t share their inner feelings with each other…not as many posts there.). There should be a site called It Did What? :) (Okay, that didn’t even make sense…lol.)

Enough is Enough! Campaign (Clinton,MD) - Weekend Rallies at BET Executive’s Home

Email To Friend Email To Friend

September 21st, 2007 by PG Chic

Did you hear about this? Clinton-based organization, Citizen’s for Change, Inc., organized a rally of more than 500 people and protested peacefully in front of BET CEO Debra Lee’s home on September 15th. The organization will continue to do so every weekend until Lee agrees to address the group’s concerns, which include goals to combat negative African American images in the media. I happened to see some coverage of one of the rallies on the local news last night.

Jena 6 Rally and Protest - Did you wear black?

Email To Friend Email To Friend

September 20th, 2007 by PG Chic

Hopefully, you got the memo. I was encouraged today to see unity in the amount of people who wore black in support of the Jena 6. From talking to co-workers dressed in black who “got the memo” to seeing familiar (and non-familiar) supporters in my building to giving a knowing nod to strangers dressed in black on the street…there was a sense of camaraderie that I have not felt in years.

I tuned in for the evening news and saw that the Jena 6 rally in Louisiana (and other locations across the country) made the top headline on most broadcasts. A young man being interviewed said it best. The Free Jena 6 movement leading up to the rally and protest feels like the beginning of something larger…

Remembering September 11th

Email To Friend Email To Friend

September 11th, 2007 by PG Chic

I remember being in Arlington,VA that day for training in a small building near the courthouse.

I remember arriving a little late and other people in the training class talking about a plane crash in New York (the first plane).

I remember collective confusion after news of the second plane crash.

I remember chaos after hearing about the crash at the Pentagon about 4 miles from the training center.

I remember not being able to use my cell phone or even the hard line at the training center to call my family, including my sister in New York.

I remember being afraid to take the Metro home and hearing crazy reports of the next target (before hearing about Flight 93 in PA).

I remember getting home safely and the chill of seeing the crash footage over and over again, but being obsessed with the news on all channels.

I remember not being able to sleep that night and having nightmares about being on one of the planes.

I remember being emotionally drained.

I remember seeing American flag car stickers and “We will not forget” bumper stickers everywhere for months.

I remember the Anthrax scare a few weeks after September 11th.

I remember the plane crash in Queens,NY two months later that no one ever talks about.

I will always remember this day, our generation’s Pearl Harbor.

Noose Found Near Nyumburu Cultural Center at University of Maryland, College Park

Email To Friend Email To Friend

September 10th, 2007 by PG Chic

I was disturbed when I heard about the recent possible hate crime at my alma mater University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). The incident involved an apparent noose hanging near the Nyumburu Cultural Center, which is the building that houses the Black faculty association and the Black campus newspaper the Black Explosion. (What ever happened to the Eclipse newspaper?) I was a little disappointed in the Washington Post article, “U-Md. Responds to Possible Hate Crime”—how do you do an article about this and not mention the Jena 6? Anyway, it was good to see that the UMCP President C. D. Mote Jr. responded with seriousness and concern, considering it a potential hate crime. If the culprits are ever found, I couldn’t imagine that incident would be dismissed as a prank…sound familiar Louisiana?

Go Oprah! Although Oprah Winfrey endorsed Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for the 2008 Presidential election back in May 2007, now Oprah has announced that she will hold a presidential fundraising event for Obama at her California estate today. I have written before about the large support of Prince Georgians for Obama. What’s #1 my to-do list? Get involved with the Obama ‘08 campaign at some level. First step, bumper sticker…lol. Okay really, first step…donate.

“Read a Book” Animated Music Video on BET…What?

Email To Friend Email To Friend

September 5th, 2007 by PG Chic

I remember getting a forward about “Read a Book” within the past couple of months and I saw few of the lyrics and deleted the message. I figured it was some unfunny person’s attempt to be funny and the message appeared to be racist, so I decided not to waste my valuable time on foolishness. Now, low and behold, I find out that the animation associated with “Read a Book” has been playing on BET’s 106 and Park…what? How is that appropriate for that age group? I guess the point is that the cartoon is no more appropriate than the typical video that plays on BET (and other networks).

Anyway, a controversy has been brewing about the supposedly satirical “Read a Book” and the African American creators of the song and animation were recently on CNN defending their work. I refuse to link to the animation because of the language, but it you haven’t seen it, a quick search of “Read a Book” on YouTube or Google should do. Maybe I am officially old, but BET needs to make better choices for their programming. There is a Klan member somewhere out there applauding “Read a Book” and having a “Read a Book” party right now…thanks BET. First “Hot Ghetto Mess” and now this garbage. The execs at BET need to read a book…
