I attended a family event this past weekend and it was interesting to listen to the elders engage in the great debate going on in our community…Clinton or Obama? The younger relatives (40 and under) were mostly vying for Obama, but the older relatives had mixed feelings. I heard everything from, “That Obama talks to much…” and “I like Obama, but can he win a general election” and “You know, that Hillary is no Bill Clinton.”
I loved listening to and chiming in on this presidential discussion with my immediate and extended family. In the air, there was and still is the strong feeling that regardless of what happens, history will be made. And, more importantly, we are a part of this history being made. Many of the elders in the room, were active participants in the Civil Rights movement from sit-ins to marches and more. They lived their history. I feel like our generation wants to make history and be part of something new. Something different. Something progressive. Change.

Okay, so my subject line is a biased, but that’s okay.
Whoever you support, please be sure you make it to the polls next Tuesday, February 12th. Your vote counts!
The results from Super Tuesday said it all (see Washington Post). The race is still on! Yes, we can!
(And, please pay close attention to the Donna Edwards / Albert Wynn contest…more on that later.)

One of my co-workers keeps raving about Restaurant Eve in Alexandria, VA. I still have not been yet, but I will certainly write a review once I’ve gone. One highlight is the delicious (so I’ve heard) individual pink birthday cakes on their dessert menu. See the Washingon Post article about the Restaurant Eve birthday cakes.

I found an interesting Web site today called Rotten Neighbors which is a Google map mashup that allows you to search for “rotten neighbors” by zip code and/or contribute your own comments to the map. I did a couple of searches in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. Many of the comments appear to be useful, but I was literally laughing out loud (LOL) at some of the contributions.
If the Rotten Neighbors Web site owners can stay on top of vandals posting irrelevant contributions, then I think this could be a great resource for home buyers. Rotten Neighbors will only be as good as the truthfulness of the people providing the contributions to the map. It was interesting to see that there were a few entries highlighting good neighbors too.
Check out a few snippets of contributions from the Rotten Neighbor Web site below –
Where are the Parents?
“Has children that have friends that like to break into neighbors cars.”
I’m a bad neighbor!
“I am an awful neighbor, don’t move near me!”
disrespectful renter in the basement
“LOUD, FOUL mouthed renter in the basement even though it is against HOA bylaws…”
Momma has not cut the cords!
“Here is a family that is interesting. The two 35+ year old kids still live with their parents…”
Ghetto
“They hold loud conversations at 3am in front of the house with cars running…. run dont walk. Sorry I moved here cant wait to move away!”

Last month, I wrote about B. Smith’s Chef Rahman “Rock” Harper and sure enough, he was the winner last week on Fox’s reality show, Hell’s Kitchen. If he’s still around, now would be the time to go to B. Smith’s before he leaves for his new job in Las Vegas at the Green Valley Ranch and Resort.

UPDATE (08/13/2007): Chef Rahman “Rock” Harper won!
I haven’t been watching FOX’s “Hell’s Kitchen” Reality Show, but I recently heard that the Executive Chef Rahman “Rock” Harper, from Washington, D.C.’s B.Smith Restaurant is one of the 12 contestants on the show. On the show, five contestants have been eliminated so far, and Chef Rock Harper is still competing on the blue team. (Word on the street is that Chef Rock may win it all, but we’ll see.) Go Chef Rock Harper!
